Gratitude: Day 21

Daily I am blessed by and thankful for

that man of mine.

He loves me well.  So much so that as I type this post, he is cleaning up a huge mess of watery food particles from under and around our sink after a major disposal clog...which I caused.  I didn't know that egg shells and potato skins could do such damage.  He is doing this without complaint.

I've loved him since I was 19 years old and I'm so grateful that he chose me to walk through this life with. He is an amazing leader, husband and Daddy.

Love you, Pook.

Gratitude: Day 20

Can I simply be thankful for my bread maker?

 Because I am.

Dusty bought me THIS BREAD MAKER for Christmas last year and I love it.  The sights and smells that come from this thing truly have healing powers.

We make french bread, pizza dough and whole wheat loaves.

Here is one of my favorites...Oatmeal Bread.  Oats, buttermilk, flour, water, yeast, salt.  That's it!

No weird fillers and preservatives and ingredients that you can't pronounce.  Homemade bread makes me feel old-timey and quaint.  Even though you just measure and push a button :)

Still Grateful!

The dust is beginning to settle.
We've had a week full of Thanksgiving travel, MAJOR house cleaning (it had gotten gross), Christmas decorating, an out of town Dusty, a Dusty returning home with a nasty case of food poisoning and then a trip to the ER with Annie last night.  Needless to say, this month long "Grateful List" had to take a hiatus while I caught my breath.  All is well and I have so much to be thankful for.

This morning in Jesus Calling I was reminded of this;

"To protect your thankfulness, you must remember that you reside in a fallen world, where blessings and sorrows intermingle freely."

While most of the events of the last week were FAR from sorrowful, I struggled with feeling frusterated,  put-upon and overwhelmed when the demands of daily life became tiring.  This parenting thing is HARD.  EXHAUSTING.  Some days monotonous.   Through it all, I am beyond grateful for my family and abudantly blessed to have these three little ones - needy and destructive as they are!

Backtrack of my Gratitude List to come!

Gratitude: Day 19

In this job, some days you have to laugh to keep from crying!  I am so very thankful for...

the funny things these kids say!

Overheard lately...

Me: Girls, are you guys cleaning up in the playroom?
Annie: No, Libby is and I'm just watching her...but she's doing a GREAT job!

----------------------------------------------

I turned on Tangled on the DVD player in the van. Charlie points at the screen and screams
"NO! NO! NO!".

----------------------------------------------

Libby:  Mommy, are you and Daddy voting for Obama or Ritt Momney?

----------------------------------------------

Libby fell at school and hurt her toe.  I was pretending to be a doctor and I asked Nurse Annie what she thought the diagnosis was.
Annie: "I think she has a case of Can't-Walk-itis.

----------------------------------------------

Walking back to the car from an Auburn game, Annie told Dusty that she just couldn't walk anymore...
Dusty:  (teasing) I guess you can lay down here in the grass and I'll come back for you tomorrow!
Annie: Daddy, you can't do that!  I'm a part of the family!

----------------------------------------------

I was praying for Libby one night in her bed.  We were snuggled up with our foreheads touching.  After I was finished  I opened my my eyes and saw that she was pinching her nose...
Libby:  Your breath really stinks, Mom.  I had to hold my nose the whole time you were praying.

Gratitude: Day 18

I love shopping with my Mom and my sister.  We don't really get to do it all that often because I live two hours away from them.
I'm so thankful for technology and

my iPhone

that allows us to "virtually shop" together any time!

The good news is I only bought the boots. :)

Gratitude: Day 17

This day was unlike most.  Charlie went out with Dusty and the girls went with me.

Thankful today for

time with just my little ladies.

Dusty took Charlie to his very first Auburn football game while the girls and I spent the afternoon out on the town.  It is so different just being out with them.  I love that little boy but I have to admit was is SO MUCH EASIER.

They can walk with me, potty and feed themselves.  We had a lovely time.  Lunch at Mama Goldberg's, some Christmas shopping for our guys, frozen yogurt at Chill and finally measuring them for bikes at Academy Sports.  They are hoping Santa comes through for them on Christmas morning!

We all got so tickled when Dusty texted these pictures.

He said that Charlie LOVED every minute of "loot-lall" and Aubie sitings!

A fun day!

Gratitude: Day 16

I am mighty thankful for

my little puppy-boy!

There is just something about this face that does something to me.  It has been so exciting and interesting to see how different boys are to girls! My life now includes trains, cars, swords and football (or "Loot-lall" as he calls it!). Charlie has humbled me as a parent, knocked me down a few notches and taught me that I may not have everything figured out just yet!

He is rowdy, loud and usually covered in sticky crumbs...but when he runs up to me and wraps his arms around me asking, "Mommy squeeze?",  I melt into a puddle.

Love you, little man.  I'm so glad I get to be your Mommy!

Gratitude: Day 15

Each day that I send my girls off in the morning, I am thankful for...

our schools.

Both our preschool and grade school are fantastic and I can't say enough good about each of them.

We have teachers that truly love our kids!     My heart is at peace knowing that Libby and Annie are safe and happy when they are away from home.

Annie had her Thankful Feast and singing program at preschool today.  This is right when she spotted Charlie and me in the audience.  The cutest indian!

Then, this afternoon we went to a Fall Festival with Libby's school.  Check out the  special guest that showed up!

Grateful for these two special schools and how they bless our family!

Gratitude: Day14

Oh, how very thankful I am for...

heirloom recipes.

I have a box with several recipe cards (typed on a typewriter!) that belonged to my grandparents.  My Grammy and Papa were such great cooks and even though they are no longer with us, I'm glad that I have these because they bring back so many memories.   I love when I can take one whiff of a dish and immediately be transported to their kitchen in Columbus, Georgia!  This afternoon I made my Papa's recipe for sweet potato pie for the girls' school Thanksgiving feasts.

It is just wonderful.  No cinnamon.  No nutmeg.  Say it with me now...Orange Extract!

Here ya go!

Papa's Sweet Potato Pie
(makes one 9 inch pie)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 cup sugar
2 cups mashed cooked sweet potatoes
1/2 stick butter, melted
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. orange extract

Mix together above ingredients and pour into a regular pie shell.  Bake for 30-40 minutes until set.

Refrigerate before slicing and serving.

Gratitude: Day 13

In Alabama, it now gets dark at around 4:50pm.  This makes for a sleepy Mommy by dinnertime.  I'm thankful tonight for...

Leftovers.

Thankful that I made lots of Brunswick Stew last night.  Thankful that my family would eat it again tonight.

Yawn... Night night!

Gratitude: Day 12

Ok, I am UBER THANKFUL...

that my children SLEEP.

They are not angels.  We may battle with disobedience, refusing vegetables not sharing and a host of other things but we rarely have to deal with sleep issues and for that I really should thank the Lord daily!

All three kiddos were sleeping through the night at around six weeks old and have really never looked back.  I know this is a rare blessing.

Before Dusty and I turn in each night, one of us will go and check on the children and give them one last kiss.  They always look so little in their beds when they are sleeping.

I'm so grateful for our quiet evenings and that we all get to sleep through the night.
Now, to go find a piece of wood to knock on...

Gratitude: Day 11

Thankful for our...

Veterans.

This painting came home from school.  Made by patriotic six year old hands.

I'm especially proud of my veterans; my Dad  (Vietnam) and his father, my Papa, (WWII).

Happy Veteran's Day!

10 on 10 {November} & Gratitude: Day 10

Ten photos taken on the tenth of the month!  A FULL day of thankfulness too.  Two for one post!

Couch to 5K...week 1 completed!

Tailgating before the Auburn/Georgia game.

Bouncy house on campus?  WHAAAAT?

Pattycake with Mimi.

Our spread.  "Welcome to Moe's!!!"

P-Pie!

Baby cub.

Dusty wiped out after 10 hours on campus and a miserable AU loss.  He still loves his Tigers though.

Slumber party in the play room.  Always special and fun.

Bedtime stories from Grandmama.  Making memories.

Grateful for a fun fall day with family and friends!

Gratitude: Day 9

Friday (and everyday) I'm so thankful for...

my sweet Mama.

She loves me and has taught me how to be a Mama too.

The children adore Grandmama.  She has downright celebrity status with them.  She has been in town this weekend and we have so enjoyed our time.

We love you!

Gratitude: Day 8

I am thankful that...

THURSDAYS are our FRIDAYS!

I am a big fan of our condensed school week.  This year, our Fridays are reserved for field trips, traveling, visiting with family or just playing and crafting at home. Annie and Charlie also LOVE having big Sissy all to themselves.   Grateful for this extra time with Libby Lou!

Gratitude: Day 7

Today's post seems like a silly one but I'm REALLY REALLY REALLY thankful for...

Tea.  Glorious Tea.

This is just the way I like it too.  Un-sweet with lemon and mint.  It's southern and lovely.

I'm especially thankful for my favorite beverage now because in the last six weeks, I  have kicked my diet soda habit completely and needed old faithful to help me through it. Tea is cheap to make at home too, so I feel like I've gotten a raise!

It's the little things, huh?  I think I'll go brew a pot now. :)

Gratitude: Day 6

It would be fitting that on this Election Day I be truly thankful

for my right to vote!

Dusty took the girls to school this morning and took Charlie along just so that I could go vote solo. (Thanks honey!)

Afterwards, Charlie and I met up with a sorority sister of mine that was visiting from out of town and had some bi-partisan breakfast.  CW cast his ballot there!

It's all been said before but we live in a blessed nation.  I will admit that worry and anxiety have crept up on me over this election process.  I want the very best for our future generations.  Although the outcome of this election is unclear, I do rest in the knowledge that God is the same today as He was yesterday and will be tomorrow.
He is SOVEREIGN.

Happy Election Day!

The Angel, Bride & Tiger Boy

Better late than never with the Halloween pics.  We had a fun night.

We went around our neighborhood to Trick-or-Treat for a little while then back home for chili and cornbread (a tradition). In light of Lib's recent cavity, we handed out mini tubs of Play-Doh instead of candy.  I thought it may seem lame but it was a hit!  I was surprised how much my kids loved answering the door and handing out our treat later in the evening. They may have enjoyed that even more than Trick-or-Treating themselves!

Libby and Annie both chose their costumes.

Charlie got the Old Navy clearance special.  Worked out well for our little Auburn Tiger though!

Thank you Grandmama for finding Annie's "Wedding Girl" thrift store dress.  It is the gem of our dress-up stash now!

Can you spy Annie's "marrying ring" that she wore on her left hand?

Frustrated ROAR...

I forget to take more video.  I've tried to do more lately to capture their little voices :)   Here's a little clip as we took off to Trick-or-Treat!

Gratitude: Day 5

Thankfully it was light outside at 6:15 AM this morning so that I could begin...(GULP)...

I did C25K back in 2010 and ended up actually enjoying it.  Who knew? Thankful today for that extra daylight that will *hopefully* motivate me to get out of bed and put on my running shoes!

Gratitude: Day 4

Today I am reminded how thankful I am for...

 our Church.

It is a place that loves people and leads them to a relationship with Jesus.  We are blessed to be a part of this body of Believers.

I'm also grateful for the friendships that my children are building there as well.  I love to watch the older Youth Group kids serving and investing in my little ones!

Gratitude: Day 3

I am grateful for...

FRIENDS!  Both old and new.

I got to see several today which is such a treat!

This is my sweet college roommate Jen and me today before the Auburn game.  We met in high school and lived together for three years.  She has such a kind spirit.  I always love when we can get together...our kiddos are now buddies too!

I am thankful for those that have been placed in my life at just the perfect time.  You all continue to encourage, inspire and make life just that much sweeter!

Gratitude: Day 2

Today I am thankful for...

Watching our children write God's Word on their heart.
Although Libby does not fully understand sin and has not yet received Salvation, she is daily studying, learning and asking questions about Jesus. We are blessed to have a naturally curious child that truly takes an interest in Scripture!

I just finished making a chalkboard for the girls' room where they can draw, practice writing, leave notes for each other and where I can post memory verses. Today, Libby beat me to it.
At school they memorize a verse a week. Right now they are learning about Noah...

Can you decipher Kindergarten-ese phonetic spelling?

"Make thee an ark out of gopher wood".
Genesis 6:14 KJV

HA! She may not have the spelling (or reference!) correct, but I love that she took it upon herself to share a verse that she has been learning with her sister. It is Dusty's and my prayer that all of our children will come to know the Lord at a young age and enjoy time in His Word!

Little Tigerettes and the Cub

Tailgate fun with family and friends before the Auburn v. Texas A&M game...

Weagle, Weagle!
