Spring Break Down

My little blog has been on a unintended hiatus lately.  As always, life has a way of keeping me on my toes and when when I finally sit down at night, Mr. Garnett and I find ourselves snoozing before the 10 o'clock news comes on.

Rewinding a bit...Spring Break!  Libby had a week off from school at the beginning of the month so we headed down to Panama City to spend a few days at my parent's condo.  They are always so sweet to open it up to us any time!  The weather was gorgeous.  Sunny, warm, a bit windy, and perfect for welcoming spring.

While the water was obviously still very chilly, we enjoyed sitting out on the beach and the kids loved playing in the sand, flying kites and being just outside.

The cost of a few days at the beach is that our little guy didn't sleep.  As in, up and down all night until finally Dusty joined him on the air mattress.  Yawn.

Looking a little like "Blossom" in this pic, but ended up with a pink face the first day.  That sun is strong!

Blowing bubbles and feeding seagulls...

...and sissy.

Dusty and  I both agreed there is no manly way to blow bubbles, but the kids sure loved it! :)

I don't think anyone had a much fun as Annie did.  This girl LOVES the beach.  She could not get enough of the sand and sun and begged to get in the ocean every day.  The water was icy, but she didn't seem to notice.  I can't wait to watch her enjoy the summer here.

Unfortunately, Libby got sick on the second night of our trip.  What we first thought was a stomach virus ultimately ended up being a mild infection that was easily treated with antibiotic.  The days of not knowing what exactly was wrong were a little scary, especially after two abdominal x-rays were ordered in two days once we got back to Auburn.  I think I aged a year in those two days!

She was a good patient and was still able to enjoy our trip, but just had to keep a low profile for the majority of it.  She left this on Grandmama and Grandaddy's beach fridge as a thank you for our little getaway!

Thankful for a now healthy girl and some time to enjoy the beginnings of spring!

New Digs

I've done a some late night rearranging of my little blog.  I'm aware that the text looks a little wonky and that fix will come as soon as I can figure out how to scoot it over :)

A change was long overdue!

Thirty Something

I turned 32 last week.  It was a low key (rainy!) day but it was spent with my favorite people.  I did school carpool as usual, played with the little guy at home that morning then made a lunchtime trip to the farmers market with the kids after school.  That night we had a family date to Venditori's for dinner.  Sweet handmade cards, phone calls and texts and some DVR with my honey made it the perfect day!

Bye-Bye Baby Bed

I'm so very sad.  For the first time in six and a half years, I no longer have a crib set up in my house.

This little monkey decided Friday afternoon during his nap to scale the crib wall and call to me from the top of the stairs.  "Mommy!  I watch race cars!".  My heart sank.  No more baby bed.

Charlie had crawled out of his bed months ago (he was around 17 months) so at that point we took the metal mattress frame out and just put the mattress directly on the floor surrounded by the four crib walls. The rails were then right below his chin! We thought that would buy us plenty of time to contain our wild boy well after his second birthday.  Wrong.

I made him do it three more times just to make sure it wasn't a fluke.  This kid is strong!

Dusty spent Friday evening taking the front of the crib off and attaching the toddler rail.  Contrary to his expression in this pic, he took one look at his new bed and said,
"I no like it.".

He wasn't having this new set up.  A little wrestle time with Daddy to wear him down...

At this point it was after 9:00 pm...

We gave him reassurances that big boys sleep in big boy beds.  Thomas the Train sleeps in a big boy bed...bulldozers sleep in big boy beds...Fireman sleep in big boy beds...

...and finally he dozed off with Daddy asleep on the floor next to him.

Charlie has done pretty well this weekend.  He took a two and a half hour nap yesterday and has fallen asleep by himself in his bed the last two nights.  I'm so proud of him but can't help but mourn the loss of  the crib and what it means.  I'm excited about this new season but I wish I had known that Friday afternoon was the last time I would put a baby in a crib.  Sniff sniff!

Today's nap time was unsuccessful.  I guess he was too busy to sleep!
